Challenge Program

HISTORY: In 1999, Charlotte Junior Soccer Foundation, Inc., expanded its programs to include the Charlotte Speed Challenge teams, playing U-10 through U-14, boys and girls. Open tryouts for challenge teams give the interested players an opportunity to play competitive soccer and participate in tournaments. Speed teams have won both State and City championships. In May of 2004,  Charlotte Speed affiliated with Charlotte United Futbol Club. All teams participate in the Charlotte Area Youth Soccer League, a division of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association.

OVERSIGHT: Charlotte United FC coaches and trainers will conduct the tryouts for all of the Charlotte United Speed teams. CUFC operates, trains, and manages the Charlotte United Speed challenge teams, along with other organizations throughout Charlotte. Charlotte United is a member of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA). Charlotte United FC Speed teams are open to everyone but the majority of the players are former Charlotte Junior Soccer Foundation recreational players.

LEAGUE PLAY: Charlotte United FC challenge teams participate in the Charlotte Area Youth Soccer League (CAYSL), the state sanctioned challenge league for our area.

TRYOUTS: All Charlotte Junior Soccer Foundation players, along with any interested player, who wish to play at the challenge level are welcome to tryout for the Charlotte United FC Speed challenge teams in late May. AGE GROUPS: Challenge teams start at Under 9 and go to Under 14, girls and boys. The minimum age for challenge players is 7 on or after August 1st of that playing year (or what is defined as a true Under 8 player). CUFC also has classic teams, the next level of competition after challenge, for ages Under 11 through Under 18.
